Today, in the city of Astana International Turkic Academy (TWESCO) has awarded TWESCO's Silver medal to an outstanding turkologist Timur Kocaoglu for special merits before the science of the Turkic world and for contribution to the strengthening of cooperation between brotherly peoples.

The Midwest Slavic Association, with support from the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES), is now welcoming submissions for its annual student essay prize competition for undergraduate and graduate students. Interested students can submit a paper on any topic related to Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies to the Midwest Slavic Association for consideration.

For 28 years, freedom was limited, families were separated, and individuals were cut off from job opportunities by a 12-foot-high concrete barrier — t he Berlin Wall. The wall, which divided West Berlin and East Berlin in Germany from 1961 to 1989 was also a symbol of the divide between democracy and communism during the Cold War.

This semester, the MSU German Studies program is commemorating the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
